Description

No. 19, known as the Byron Hotel, is a stucco-faced building dating from the early 19th century. It is situated on the north-east side of The Beacon. Lady Byron and her daughter resided at the hotel in 1828. The building has a balustraded parapet above a heavily moulded eaves cornice, and a Mansard slate roof with three modern dormers and a basement. It has two storeys and three windows, with the south-eastern window being of three lights. The windows are generally sash windows with labels above and vertical glazing bars. A good Ionic porch is present, featuring fluted columns, a round arched door, and a plain fanlight. The building has steps with railings, and area railings. The rear facade remains unaltered.
