Description
The Braddock headstone, located approximately 6 metres south of the porch of the Church of St Michael, dates from around 1750 and commemorates Mary Braddock. Made of limestone, this upright slab stands about 700mm high and features a shaped head. The front is framed with a bolection-moulded design that rises to a bifurcated scroll at the top. Below this scroll, there is a winged cherub head in bas relief, flanked by a skull and crossbones. The front of the headstone bows out slightly and is inscribed with Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, following the Gothic style for the first two words, "Here lieth." The inscription records the death of Mary Braddock, although the date is not visible.
