Description

Salters is a cottage likely dating from the 17th century. The walls are a mix of plastered local stone and flint rubble, possibly with some cob. The stack is built of stone rubble and topped with 19th-century brick, and the roof is thatched. Originally a two-room plan cottage facing south, the right-hand room has a gable-end stack and an oven housing projecting from the front wall. Without an internal inspection, the exact layout and any modernisations are currently unknown. The cottage is two storeys high. The front features a pair of 20th-century windows, one with glazing bars and the others with leaded rectangular panes. A 20th-century thatched porch shelters the centrally placed front door, which is also 20th century and part-glazed. The roof is hipped on the left and gable-ended on the right. An inspection of the interior was not possible for the survey, but based on nearby cottages of a similar date, some 17th-century carpentry and architectural detail is suspected.
