Description

Summerlands is a mid-19th century cottage located in Dunkeswell. It is constructed from white-washed local stone rubble with a stone rubble stack topped with 20th-century brick and a slate roof. Originally a single-room plan cottage facing north, it now has secondary service outshots on the left end and rear. The cottage is two storeys high and forms the left end of a row, having been added to an earlier pair, Corner Cottage and Wellsteps. The front elevation features a regular two-window arrangement of late 19th- to early 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars, placed under low segmental arches. The front doorway, on the right, contains a late 19th- to early 20th-century plank door sheltered by a monopitch hood with a shaped valance. The roof abuts Wellsteps to the right and is gable-ended to the left. Internally, no original carpentry details are exposed. Summerlands contributes to a group value when considered alongside Corner Cottage and Wellsteps.
