Description
The Moncaster chest tomb, located approximately 3 metres north of the aisle of the Church of St Gregory, is a Grade II listed structure dated 1831 in memory of Elizabeth Moncaster. It is made of beerstone and features a rectangular shape with a flat lid that has moulded edges. The sides of the tomb are adorned with rectangular panels that are defined by sunken strips, and the edges have light chamfers. Each main panel on the sides is inscribed with Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, with some italics. The south side commemorates Elizabeth Moncaster, who died in 1831, while the other sides honor her relatives who passed away in the following decade.
