Description

The Ramson chest tomb, dated 1792, is located approximately 12 metres south of the porch of the Church of St Michael in Otterton. It commemorates Simon and Elizabeth Ramson and is constructed from limestone ashlar. The tomb features a richly soffit-moulded flat lid, while the plinth is buried. On each long side, the central plaque slightly protrudes. The northern side bears an inscription in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, noting the death of Simon Ramson in 1792 and his wife, Elizabeth, in 1787. The tomb is surrounded by a kerb that includes settings for iron boundary rails.
