Description
The Cricklade War Memorial, built in 1925, is a Latin cross made of dressed granite, standing on a three-stepped base with a tapering plinth. The front (east) face of the cross features a bronze wreath. On the front of the plinth, there is a large bronze plaque inscribed with the words: "TO OUR GLORIOUS DEAD/ 1914 – 1918/ (32 NAMES)/ 'THEY DIED THAT WE MIGHT LIVE'." Below this, attached to the top step, is a smaller plaque that reads: "1939 - 1945/ (8 NAMES)."
Surrounding the memorial is an enclosure formed by low stone walls and piers, which are linked by metal chains and gates, creating a separation from the street. Additionally, a bronze plaque affixed to a north pier details the history of the memorial, including its rededication in 2008. The boundary treatment around the memorial was completed in 1930 and consists of rubble stone walls with concrete coping.
