Description
Ivy Cottages is a cottage dating from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed of squared limestone rubble with freestone architraves and has a stone slate roof with brick stacks at the gable ends. The cottage features a two-unit through-passage plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, presenting a symmetrical two-window range.
The central 20th-century enclosed gabled porch is flanked on both floors by 20th-century two-light stone-mullioned windows. Notably, the eaves of this cottage are higher than those of No. 6 to the right. The quoin at the first-floor level has two freestone blocks above a vertical joint, indicating that this cottage hangs over the party wall.
Inside, the cottage has a three-bay roof with a ridge-in-notch and two rows of trenched purlins. The cupboard stairs located at the rear right feature an 18th-century planked door at the base, along with a planked wall and chamfered rail. The ground floor includes sawn chamfered beams.
