Description
Avil's Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid 18th century. It is constructed of roughcast rubble stone and features hipped stone slate roofs with rebuilt stacks. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a square plan and a 20th-century rear extension.
The west front displays flush quoins and has 16-pane sash windows of early 19th-century style. There is a central 20th-century lean-to projection that may be hiding a former door, with 16-pane sashes on each side at both the ground and first floors, although the window to the right on the upper floor is smaller. A brick ridge stack is present.
On the south front, there is a large 20th-century flat dormer and 16-pane sash windows on the left side for both floors. The centre features a door in a lean-to porch that connects to a projecting southeast extension, which is roughcast and covered with stone slates, likely from the 20th century.
The north side includes one hipped dormer and a 20th-century two-storey wing to the northeast. The east side has a hipped dormer and a 20th-century single-storey addition that connects to a stable range, which is not of special interest.
