Description

The Priory consists of a 17th-century house incorporating earlier medieval fabric, with a substantial refacing of number 3 occurring in 1809. It is constructed of dressed limestone with a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high with attics, comprising one bay for number 2 and six bays for number 3. A simple stone porch provides access via a door located in the third bay. The windows are twelve-pane sashes, each with a raised keystone and platband. A moulded cornice and parapet visually conceal two raked dormers on number 3. Further windows include two twelve-pane sashes and a gable light to the gable end facing the road. A left gable stack is present on number 2. The end gable displays remnants of a large two-centred medieval window, believed to be part of the Hospital of St. John the Baptist, which was established for travellers before 1231.
