Description

This shop with living accommodation above was built in the 1830s in Paignton. The building is rendered and has a gabled slate roof with a brick chimney on the right-hand side. It's arranged in a rough "L" shape, with the main section being two storeys deep and a rear service wing to the left, having its own separate entrance. The front of the building has an asymmetrical design with two windows. A flagged passageway is on the left, leading to a recessed doorway with a blocked window above. The right side features a 20th-century shopfront with a projecting plate glass window and a 20th-century plate glass door with an overlight. The first floor has two two-pane sash windows, and the second floor has two early 19th-century sixteen-pane sash windows. The ground floor of the main section was gutted in the 20th century for the shop, but the remainder of the interior was not inspected and may contain original features. Winner Street was historically the main medieval route in Paignton, and was named after the bishops' vineyard.
