Description

This milestone, dating from the early 19th century, is made of Portland stone and is rectangular in shape. It is inscribed with "SEMINGTON, 26, MILES" and stands outside shop numbers 2 to 6 on Canal Walk in Swindon. The stone was reset during mid-20th century development. Semington marked the beginning of the Wilts and Berks Canal, which was built following an Act of 1795.
