Description
Westrop Farmhouse is probably of mid to late 17th-century origin. It is a two-and-a-half-story building constructed of rubble with a modern tile roof. The farmhouse has raised and moulded verges and moulded footstones. The main part of the house is an 'L' shaped wing, originally two bays wide and converted in the 20th century. Two chimneys have moulded capping; the right-hand one has a very large external stack. There are two gabled dormers. The windows are arranged in three ranges, with the central range featuring two lights, ovolo mullions, and drips, with relieving arches over the ground floor openings. The central entrance doorway has been replaced with a window, but its jambs retain carved initials 'J.H.' and 'W.H.'. A datestone above the window is said to have originally shown the date 1640, though it is now obscured. The initials likely refer to members of the Hussey family. Two labels are visible over the cellar openings to the right, which may be a later addition. The rear elevation includes a central steep gable with a moulded oculus and a small gabled stair turret to the right. Inside, there is an inglenook fireplace and ovolo moulding to a beam with a complex stop and run-out stops.
