Description

This is an unidentified chest tomb located about 3 metres south of the nave of the Church of St. James in Tormarton. It dates from the late 18th century and is made of limestone. The tomb features a heavy flat top with a moulded edge and a moulded base. It has corner pilasters adorned with deeply cut scrolled foliage, with similar foliage on the east and west sides. The south side includes a panel with anthemia and scrolled carving, while the north side has paired inscription panels with a central fielded panel. The inscriptions have worn away over time.
