Description

Barrow Court Farmhouse is a farmhouse with origins dating back to the late 15th century. It has been partly damaged by fire and features alterations and additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of rubble with large sandstone quoins and limestone dressings, while the front, left return, and rear are rendered. It has a pantiled roof with a ridge stack that is slightly higher on the right side, along with gable stacks.

The farmhouse is two storeys high. On the left side, there are two bays featuring 20th-century two-light casements with segmental heads on both the ground and first floors, along with a central door. The right side has three bays with 19th-century three-light casements on both floors, and two similar casements on the ground floor. There is a central 20th-century gabled porch with a door, and to the left, there is a stilted arched blocked door opening with a moulded edge.

The left return has an attached one-and-a-half storey outhouse with garage doors in the gable end. The right return includes a large plate-glass window and door to the left, with a two-light casement on the first floor to the right, featuring decorative iron loop catches and external shutters. The attic has a two-light casement with similar decorative iron loop catches and external shutters, as well as a two-light stone window with cusped heads. There is a 20th-century lean-to attached to the rear right, which has waney-edged boarding.

The rear of the farmhouse has a catslide roof, a large stack (formerly an external lateral stack) to the left, and a 20th-century dormer to the right. There is a small lean-to to the left and a single light window to the right, with a stack on the right side.

Inside, the farmhouse has been substantially altered in the 20th century. To the rear, there is a stone pointed arched doorway with double studded doors that have strap hinges, along with a similar chamfered arched opening to the left and a similar door with a glazed panel inset.
