Description
Hangman's Cottage is a two-storey stone and brick cottage that dates back to the 13th century, and possibly even earlier. The building features a thatched roof and has a curved shape. Originally, it was composed of three cottages, but it has since been reduced to two. The former No. 17 has a higher eaves line, while Hangman's Cottage includes a half-dormer. A projecting brick porch adds to its character. The windows are wood casements, with some featuring lead glazing, and the cottage has hipped gables. It is believed that the hangman who executed sentences during the "Bloody Assizes" lived in this cottage.
