Description
No. 6 High West Street is a 17th-century building, originally the site of the Abbot of Abbotsbury's town house. It features timber-framing and plaster, with three storeys and a cellar, topped by a slate roof. The projecting ground floor has a dentilled cornice supported by stop-moulded posts, with windows and two circular-headed porches that have drop finials and ornamental spandrels. There are two ledged doors, one of which is original, set in moulded frames. The first floor has two square bays, one with eight lights and the other with six lights, both having transoms. The second floor, which overhangs, features two six-light oriels and a small gallery between the bays on the first floor. The interior retains many original features, although there has been significant restoration both externally and internally.
