Description

This is a converted cottage range located in Edwardstowe East. Some elements possibly date from the early 16th century or earlier, and may be remnants of outlying abbey buildings. These original features include a stone arch on the garden side, remains of a stone staircase, a fireplace lintol, and some stud and panel partitions. The mullioned windows, largely altered, originally featured segmental or 3-centred arched lights. A niche with a shell head, dating to approximately 1690, is found inside. The front of the building is a long, two-story stone rubble range built on a slight curve, topped with a plain tile roof. Some original stone window frames remain, while the others are modern casements with leaded lights. There are six windows on the upper floor and eight on the lower floor. Recent additions were designed by Gordon Hake, FRIBA, architect.
