Description
Pensbury House is a large country house, with a significant section dating to the mid-18th century, and alterations of the 19th century. The main garden front, facing north-west, is two storeys high and comprises five bays. It is constructed of ashlar and has a slate roof with a panelled parapet. The central bay slightly projects and features a triangular pediment. A stringcourse and moulded cornice run along the top of the facade. The windows are arranged in groups of three panes within frames, each with a moulded archivolt and keystone. The central bay also contains a round-headed doorway with a moulded archivolt, accentuated by a triple keystone, and supported by pilasters. Flanking these are taller pilasters topped by an entablature with a triangular pediment. A contemporary rainwater head is located in the corner behind the central bay. The road front is also of two storeys and three bays, with the second and third bays projecting slightly. This section features a moulded cornice, a panelled parapet over the central bay, and windows with three panes set within stone architraves and small keystones. A doorway is marked by a stone architrave and a triangular pediment supported by scroll brackets. A wing was added to the north-east end in the 19th century, specifically in 1863 (as indicated by a date inscription below one of the windows). This wing is two storeys high and has three windows, with the left-hand bay projecting forward.
