Description
The Old Rectory is a rectory that has been converted into a private house, built around 1800 for Francis Simpson, the rector. It features a combination of banded flint and ashlar stone with a tiled roof consisting of two parallel ranges. The building has a square plan with three symmetrical facades, each with three bays, and stands three storeys tall. The upper floor has sash windows with six panes, while the lower floor has sash windows with twelve panes. A central gabled porch with a round-headed arch contains a fanlight and a panelled door. There is a tiled garage attached to the right side of the building.
Inside, there are notable features including stone stairs leading to the first floor, which have moulded nosing and plain timber balustrades. The stairs above the first floor are made of wood and have Tuscan column newel-posts. The ground-floor rooms are adorned with moulded plaster cornices and marble fireplace surrounds, and there are original bookcases in the study.
