Description

Sandley House is a house dating to circa 1830, although it may have earlier origins. It is constructed of ashlar, with some parts rendered at the rear, and has a low-pitched slate roof with lead rolls to the ridges and hips. The roof has a stone modillion eaves cornice, pilasters, and a string course. The house has squat ashlar axial stacks with cornices.

The house comprises a main range with a central entrance, a left-hand cross-wing projecting to the front, and a service wing extending to the rear, with a block set in the angle.

The symmetrical front of the main range has three bays. The central bay projects and has a hipped roof with a modillion cornice. The central doorway is now a window, and has stone pilasters, an entablature, and narrow side lights. There are tripartite windows to the left and right, with slim stone pilasters and entablatures, and three windows above, each with louvred shutters. All windows are sash windows with complete glazing bars. The projecting left-hand wing has corner pilasters and tripartite windows to both ground and first floors, with pilasters and entablatures at ground floor level. The right-hand return elevation has garden doors with pilasters and entablatures, and 12-pane sashes with louvred shutters. The rear has a service wing on the right, with a block set in the angle. The service wing is rendered and has various sash windows with glazing bars. To the left of the centre of the rear elevation are tripartite ground and first floor sash windows with glazing bars.

The interior has not been inspected.

Sandley House is a handsome late Georgian house, said to have earlier origins.
