Description
Higher Langham House is a house dating to the 1770s, with 19th-century extensions to the east and west. It is constructed of coursed rubble with a hipped tiled roof, and has brick stacks marking where the hips meet the ridge. The original central part of the house is symmetrical, with three bays. It has 12-pane sash windows in moulded architraves, each with a keystone. A central 20th-century glazed door is set within a rusticated surround featuring a three-part keystone and a triangular pediment. Brackets shaped like triglyphs support the eaves at each end of the facade. The later wings incorporate 3-light casements with leaded lights or glazing bars, set under wooden lintels. The principal rooms inside retain 18th-century features, including moulded and enriched cornices, a stone fireplace in the hall with a decorated entablature, and a staircase with close strings, latticed balustrades, and a panelled oak dado.
