Description

Marley Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. It has stone walls and a thatched roof, with brick stacks. A lean-to extension faces the road, built with brick and flint and covered by a tiled roof. The main house has an extension to the north under a catslide roof. The front elevation includes a modern entrance door towards the south end of the lean-to, garage doors, and a casement window towards the north end. A modern dormer window sits above the extension’s roof. The main (east) elevation features a part-glazed door, a built-up doorway, two casement windows, and two horizontally sliding sash windows with glazing bars on the ground floor. The first floor has three casement windows, one retaining some lead lights, and the others with glazing bars. Inside, the ground floor rooms are characterised by chamfered ceiling beams. The south room contains a large, reconstructed open fireplace with a timber lintel. The north room has traces of a bread oven.
