Description
This is a mid-19th century building on South Street, constructed of red brick with a yellow brick string course and ashlar dressings. It has a hammer-dressed stone plinth and a pitched slate roof, with one coped gable featuring kneelers. Red brick stacks are present.
The building is two storeys high and features a moulded yellow brick eaves cornice. It contains eight ranges of sash windows and seven four-panelled doors, each with an oblong fanlight and keystone. One carriage entrance is distinguished by a 3-centred arch, built with long-and-short quoins and voussoirs, and has moulded imposts.
The rear of the building is constructed of rubble with red brick dressings, displaying casements with glazing bars. Behind number 140 is a long, single-story outhouse built of colour-washed brick with a pitched slate roof and windows with glazing bars.
Numbers 130 to 142, along with numbers 86 to 148 (even) on South Street, are grouped together for group value, as are numbers 1 to 6 St Mary’s Place and Jarvis Place.
