Description

The Old Rectory is a house that dates from the late 18th century, with parts of the southeast section built in the early 19th century and a southern room added in the mid-19th century. The building features rendered walls and a hipped slate roof behind an embattled parapet, with various chimneys rising from the ridge. Designed in the 'Gothick' style, it is laid out in a Greek cross plan.

The southeast facade is symmetrical, consisting of two storeys and an attic with a three-window range. The central bay is slightly recessed. On the ground floor, there is a central canted ashlar porch that has a two-centred doorway with a label and a glazed double door. The sides of the porch feature lancet windows. Flanking the porch are two three-light stone windows, where the central lights have four-centred heads and the side lights are lancet lights, all with labels above. The windows are sashes with glazing bars.

On the first floor, there are three sash windows with glazing bars under four-centred heads, each with square labels. The attic has two bulls-eye windows, and there is a cornice below the parapet. On either side of the main block are two single-storey pavilions with attics, which are connected to the main block by walls featuring cross-shaped loops. These pavilions have two bays and lancet windows with glazing bars arranged in Y tracery. Above is a string course that is interrupted by a bulls-eye window, topped with an embattled parapet.

Internally, notable features include a stone fireplace with a four-centred head, a central compartment with a circular ceiling supported by four pendentives and four elliptical arches with reeded soffits. The southeast room has a circular plan with round-headed recesses, doorways adorned with moulded pilasters, and a reeded marble fireplace.
