Description
Little Petherick Village Hall and the attached caretaker's cottage were built in 1907, likely for Athelstan Riley. The structure is partly rendered and made of concrete blocks with brick dressings, topped with a rag slate roof featuring sprocketted eaves and gable ends. The village hall has a rectangular plan with a small caretaker's house on the right (east) side.
The front (south) elevation is a single storey, with the slate roof extending over a deep verandah supported by two wooden posts. The original timber mullion windows within the verandah have diagonal glazing bars, and above, there is a full dormer with a raking roof and an 8-light mullion window. The left gable end showcases well-carved bargeboards reminiscent of the 15th century, while the right gable end features the two-storey caretaker's cottage. This cottage has a gable end facing the front, with an ovolo-moulded timber 4-light mullion window on the ground floor and a mullion and transom window on the first floor. At the apex of the gable, there is a small carved figure of St Petroc in a niche.
The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted that the hall contains a fine carved chimney-piece. Athelstan Riley was an influential figure in local church affairs in the early 20th century.
