Description

ST ISSEY LITTLE PETHERICK SW 97 SW 4/228 The Old Mill

GV II

Millhouse and mill converted into hotel. Probably C18 origins, extended in early C19. Mill probably early C19. Stone rubble. Slate roof with gable ends. Brick end stacks. Plan: Original arrangement uncertain. The mill house comprises a front range of 2 room and central entrance plan, heated by end stacks with wing to rear left of smaller 2-room and central entrance plan, also heated by end stacks. The mill directly to rear is of overall rectangular plan, running parallel to the front range. Exterior: 2 storeys with 3 storeys to the mill to rear. The front range has a symmetrical 2 window front with brick segmental arches to openings; 4-pane sashes on ground and first floor with C19 central doorcase. The rear wing has a regular 3- window front with central entrance. C20 central porch of stone rubble with slate hipped roof, sash to left and large 4-pane sash to right. Two C19 12-pane sashes on first floor flank a central blind opening. 3 storey mill to rear with C19 12-pane sashes. Interior: Not inspected.
