Description
The Old Rectory Cottage is part of what was originally a rectory, built between 1826 and 1830. A later service range was added in the 19th century. The building is constructed of stuccoed slate-stone with hipped slate roofs, some of which are hidden behind a parapet. The main, three-by-three bay range is gabled at the rear. It has a plinth, moulded eaves cornice, and a parapet. The front elevation features a three-window design. The upper floor has six-pane sashes, and a nine-pane sash with glazing bars flanks a prominent 20th-century glazed porch. The porch provides access to a central, eight-panel double door with glazed side panels and a wreathed and radiating fanlight. Chimneys are positioned behind the ridge to the left and to the right of centre. A tall, round-headed sash window lights the staircase on the left return. The right return, similarly in three bays, includes a slightly projecting pedimented break on the right side, featuring glazing bar sashes. The property includes a cellar. Glazing bar sashes are also found on the rear and in the former service range, now known as Old Rectory Cottage. Inside the main range, a round-headed arch leads to a back entrance hall with a dog-leg staircase on the left. This staircase features circular newels, stick balusters (two per tread), and a carved open string. A room at the rear on the right side has a moulded plaster cornice and a bolection-moulded fireplace. Panelled doors and window shutters are present throughout.
