Description

The barns located approximately 30 metres east-south-east of Trevear Farmhouse are likely granaries and haylofts situated over shippons and stables. They date from around the mid-19th century and are constructed of granite rubble with granite dressings, topped with scantle slate roofs. The tallest barn features gable ends, the next tallest has a hipped roof, and the other barn has a half-hipped roof. The overall plan is irregular and approximately U-shaped, with two barns adjoining in a line, the wider lower barn, and another barn parallel to them, linked to the higher barn by a first-floor loft with an open shelter underneath.

The barns are two storeys tall and have virtually unaltered elevations. The tallest barn is likely the oldest of the group. Its north front includes a central first-floor loading doorway with a reused 17th-century chamfered lintel and two slit ventilators on either side. There is also a ground floor doorway towards the right. The rear features a first-floor loading doorway near the angle with the linking building. The adjoining lower barn has a single-storey integral outshut at both the front and rear, with a loft only in the central portion. Both the front and rear elevations of this barn have a central doorway and a window on each side. The east end wall has a central doorway with a loft window above, along with doorways on the left and right for access to the outshuts. The north front of the other barn has three ground floor doorways, while the east end has altered ground floor openings and an original central loading doorway above. The interior has not been inspected.
