Description
Trelights Methodist Church is a Methodist church with an adjoining hall, likely a former schoolroom. It was built in 1831 and later rebuilt and enlarged in 1887. The church is constructed of snecked stone rubble with dressed granite quoins and a moulded plinth, topped with a rag slate roof featuring a gabled end and decorated bargeboards at the front. The earlier schoolroom, located on the left, is made of stone rubble and has a rag slate roof with a half-hipped left-hand end. There is an additional range set back on the left, also made of stone rubble with a slate roof and gable ends. The 1887 chapel on the right has an entrance in the gable end at the front.
The church is a single storey building with two 19th-century lancet windows and a central 19th-century plank door with chamfered and stopped jambs and a lintel, along with a triangular light above. On the north elevation, there are more 19th-century lancet windows with brick dressings. The schoolroom on the left is the only remaining part of the original 1831 structure, featuring a 19th-century 12-pane sash window, a plank door in a dressed stone arch, and another partly glazed door in the further range to the left.
Inside, the church retains much of its 19th-century furnishings and has ornate roof trusses with curved principals, which are pierced with trefoil motifs on stone corbelled brackets.
