Description

Hendra Old Farmhouse, now a private house, likely dates from the mid 17th century and was extended in the mid 19th century. It is constructed of slate stone rubble, with render on the front and right-hand gable. The roof is double-pitched with gable ends, covered in rag slate. Stone rubble stacks are on the gable ends of the front range, while brick shafts rise from stone rubble stacks on the gable ends of the rear range.

The original plan probably consisted of two rooms and a through or cross passage, with the larger room to the right likely serving as a hall-kitchen. In the mid 19th century, a second parallel range was added to the rear, incorporating two additional ground-floor rooms heated by gable-end stacks. Around the same time, the front elevation was altered, with new windows installed. A single-storey lean-to was added to the left-hand gable end in the late 19th century.

The front elevation presents an asymmetrical three-window façade. It features mid 19th-century hornless 16-pane sashes to both floors. A circa 19th-century six-panel door is centrally placed, flanked by two sashes. The rear elevation has casements set within brick segmental arches. The interior is not accessible.
