Description
A terrace of eight houses, numbers 10 to 17, located on the east side of Park Place, Clifton, Bristol. The houses date from around 1790 and may have been designed by William Paty. They are rendered with limestone dressings, characteristic of the Late Georgian style, and feature party wall stacks and a pantile mansard roof. Each house has a double-depth plan and is arranged over three storeys, with an attic and basement. The houses are arranged in a uniform, stepped terrace, articulated by pilaster strips that rise to a moulded coping, with the coping ramping up at the party walls. Doorcases are located to the left of each house, with those of numbers 15 to 17 on the right. These doorcases feature half pilasters leading to a bracketed semicircular-arched canopy, ornamented with festooned medallions above and a cornice, with six-panel doors. Windows comprise single 8/8-pane sashes on the ground floor, 6/6-pane sashes above, a blind range to the right-hand end, and single lead-clad dormers. Internally, the houses were extensively remodelled around 1970 to create a single office, with flats in the attic and basement. Original features include a central, lateral open dogleg staircase with stick balusters and ramped, banded handrails. Attached to the property are steel basement area railings.
