Description

74 Park Street is an attached house that has been converted into a shop. It was originally built in 1762 and completed around 1800 by Thomas Paty. The building features limestone ashlar and brick construction, with party wall stacks and a pantile mansard roof, showcasing a mid-Georgian style. It has a double-depth plan, stands three storeys tall with an attic, and has a three-window range. The shop front, added in the 20th century, includes pilasters leading to a cornice and parapet. The first floor has 9/9-pane sash windows, while the second floor has 6/6-pane sash windows, and there are paired dormers above. The left side of the building is brick with limestone dressings and features a five-window range. It has a central Doric doorcase with attached columns and a pediment, a fanlight, and a six-panel door. The windows on this side have cambered heads and five stepped voussoirs, with a blind window to the right under the stack and wrought-iron basket balconies to the left. Inside, there are decorative details such as vine cornices and arched recesses. Park Street was developed over approximately 40 years and suffered significant damage around 1940, but much of it was rebuilt in a similar style after the war.
