Description
The Cemetery Chapel, built in 1877-1878 by C C Creeke, is an elaborately picturesque structure designed in the Decorated style. It is constructed from Purbeck stone with Bath stone bands and dressings, featuring large foliage corbels at the eaves cornice. The gables of the nave and transepts display a similar design, consisting of intricate wheel windows above five cinquefoiled lancets. Below these windows, on the west and south sides, there are trefoil-headed doorways. The nave windows are also cinquefoiled lancets. The polygonal apse is adorned with 2-light Geometrical windows. A buttressed tower is located at the angle of the south transept, which has a traceried frieze and a foliated cornice. This tower supports an octagonal spire featuring 2-light gabled windows that alternate with statues on high plinths, along with blind lucarnes positioned higher up. Additionally, there is a canted projection at the angle of the north transept that supports a polygonal turret.
