Description

The King's Head Hotel is a public house that originated as a hotel in the mid-16th century. It was refronted in the 18th century and underwent alterations in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of rendered brick, features gable brick stacks, and has a tiled roof. It has a left-hand L-shaped plan that extends to the back and consists of two storeys and an attic with a six-window range. The structure has a low plinth and a coped left-hand gable. The central doorway is flanked by pilasters leading to a cornice and features a panelled door. The windows are horned 6/6-pane sashes set in exposed frames.

Inside, the ground floor has been altered to include a 20th-century bar, while the left-hand rear room retains an enriched ceiling from the 16th century. According to the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, the front range has a six-bay Queen post roof with wind braces, cambered collars, and tie beams. The roof of the rear wing has three bays without braces, with ceiling joists framed between the ties. This roof design is noted as a transitional type between the open medieval style and the late 16th-century style with attics. Historically, the front of the building previously featured a late 18th to 19th-century shop front on the right side.
