Description
The raised pavement, railings, and overthrow on the north side of the Assembly Rooms date from around 1840. The raised pavement in Bennett Street features steps that lead down to the center, providing access to the Assembly Rooms. The square-section railings have flat mushroom heads, and alternate railings split into an inverted Y shape at the base. These railings rest on a horizontal lower rail supported by cast iron balls. The structure extends approximately 20 meters to the west and 30 meters to the east of three steps that are topped by an overthrow, which includes ornamental cast iron piers and large scroll supports for a lamp.
