Description
1 North Parade Passage is a town house that dates back to 1718, though it may have earlier origins. It was altered in 1727 when it became part of Ralph Allen's town house, which is attributed to John Wood the Elder, and it underwent further changes in the late 18th century, 19th century, and 20th century.
The building is constructed of limestone ashlar, with the ground floor rendered and painted. It has a narrow frontage and a double depth plan.
The exterior features three storeys, cellars, and a full-height attic, with two windows. The ground floor includes a late 19th century plate glass sash window and a plain recessed doorway with a panelled door. The first and second floors have similar sash windows, while the attic features six over six sashes of late 18th century style. There is a rusticated giant pilaster on the left, a sill band at the first floor, a cornice, and a parapet, with the roof not visible. A lead hopper-head and down-pipe are located to the right. This elevation is part of an architectural group with 2 North Parade Passage, which is listed as Grade II*.
The interior has not been inspected.
