Description

The Imberhorne or East Grinstead Viaduct is a railway viaduct built in 1880 for the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway. It is constructed of red brick and features ten segmented arches, each measuring 70 feet in length, with an overall span of 700 feet and a maximum height of 90 feet. The viaduct has piers with impost heads and includes corbelled out refuges over each pier. This impressive structure remains unaltered. The chief engineer of the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway at the time of construction was F Dale Banister, who oversaw the building of this line.
