Description

The Moat is a house located on a hammer pond and was originally the ironmaster's house before Gravetye Manor was constructed. The main part of the building dates from 1500, with the north-east bay added later in the 16th century. It was restored by William Robinson in 1887. The house is timber-framed with plaster infilling and features curved braces on the first floor, while the end walls are made of stone. Inside, there is a Horsham slab room, and the house has casement windows. A 19th-century gabled porch is also present, and there are four windows in total.
