Description
The lodge and gateway to the east of Clayton Priory, built around 1820 and possibly designed by John Rebecca, is a small square building finished in stucco. It features two windows, with each front flanked by pilasters set at an angle, a cornice, and a parapet. The roof is made of slate, and the round-headed windows have incised lines above them. A mid-19th century addition added two windows to the northwest side. Adjacent to the lodge on the north is the gateway, which consists of stuccoed gate-piers topped with eagle figures and an elaborate iron gate in between. The carriage gates include side pieces that serve as pedestrian gates.
