Description
Notecroft is a building located in Horsted Keynes, originally constructed in 1706 by Edward Lightmaker, the Lord of the Manor and nephew of Archbishop Leighton, who is buried in the nearby church. This structure served as the original school and schoolhouse and is two storeys high with one window. It features red brick with grey headers, a stringcourse, and a wooden modillion eaves cornice, topped by a hipped tiled roof. The glazing bars are intact. To the north, there is a single-storeyed section of red brick that was the original school room, which includes a doorway with a curved hood and a door with four fielded panels. Further north is the former brew-house, which has been converted into part of the modern house and is now used as the kitchen. This section is also one storey high and constructed of red brick, featuring a gable end to the west.
