Description

Hurstwood Farmhouse is a former farmhouse, now a house, dating from around 1600. It was partly refronted in the early 19th century and refenestrated, with a lean-to extension added in the 20th century. The building is timber-framed, with a visible boxframe in the rear elevation, and plaster infill including some old pargetting. The other sides have been refronted in brick, which is mainly painted, with additions of sandstone and weatherboarding. The steeply pitched hipped tiled roof has a gablet to one end and a central brick chimneystack.

The house has two storeys and three windows, featuring 20th-century replacement casements. The front has a central plank door with a 20th-century tiled penticed porch supported by wooden piers, alongside a triangular brick buttress. A lean-to extension is present on the rear, with a further 20th-century rendered extension featuring a pantiled roof.

Inside, the timberframing is of high quality. A central ground floor room contains an open fireplace flanked by wooden cupboards, a chamfered spine beam with lambs tongue stops, and similar floor joists. Other features include a series of plank doors and a queenpost roof with through purlins.
