Description
This is an early 19th-century building range located on the west side of Henfield High Street. It originally comprised a series of shops and businesses, including A and G M White's Stores (the Post Office), Madeleine (Hair Stylist), the National Westminster Bank, A Hillman (Shoe Shop), Harrison (News Agent), Angela (Draper), Ivy House, J W Greenfield (Green Grocer), and J Brunsdon (Butcher).
The building is two storeys high and features seventeen windows. It is constructed of red brick with an eaves cornice and slate roofs. The original glazing bars remain intact on the first floor. Three original doorways survive: one with a round-headed form and a semi-circular fanlight in the Post Office, one in a moulded architrave surround with a rectangular fanlight in the Bank, and another round-headed with a semi-circular fanlight and a six-panel door at Ivy House. The ground floor now features modern shop windows, whereas the first-floor retains some original detailing.
