Description
Glebe House, originally the Rectory, is a large house constructed in two parallel blocks. The north block dates from the early 17th century and is two stories with an attic, featuring five windows and four gabled dormers. It is built of red brick with grey headers on a brick and sandstone base, and has an eaves cornice and a hipped roof covered with Horsham slabs. Most of the windows are original casement windows with wooden mullions, small square leaded panes, and brick hood-moulds above. There is a 19th-century gabled porch. The south block, facing the garden, is from the 18th century and consists of two sections with a break in the eaves cornice at the center. It has nine sash windows on the first floor with intact glazing bars, and below are French windows with Venetian shutters set in round-headed arches. This side has a slate roof and there is a modern wing to the east. Glebe House is a very good example of a house from several periods.
