Description
The Dolphin and Anchor Hotel is an 18th-century building located on the north side of West Street. It stands three storeys tall and is finished in stucco. The original section of the Dolphin Hotel features a tile name on the parapet and has eight windows, along with a large cornice and parapet. To the right of the entrance is a carriage entrance that leads through the hotel, characterized by long or short quoins and a keystone. The door has a curved hood supported by heavy consoles, and there is a semi-circular fanlight above it.
To the west of the original building is an extension with two windows, followed by the former separate Anchor Hotel, which has six windows, a cornice, a parapet, and framed windows. Above the parapet, there are two models of an anchor. To the east of the original Dolphin building, the hotel extends into an 18th-century house that is also three storeys tall with three windows, but it features a modern public house front on the ground floor.
The Dolphin and Anchor Hotel, along with Nos 1 to 4 consecutively, forms a cohesive group.
