Description

Halsey's Farmhouse is a farmhouse located in Sidlesham, with the northwest range dated 1795 and the southwest range possibly from around 1810. The building features an interesting symmetrical design, consisting of a two-storey farmhouse flanked by a kitchen wing to the northwest and a one-storey wash house to the west. The farmhouse is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, topped with a hipped slate roof and an end brick stack. It has two storeys and two windows, with twelve-pane sash windows set in cambered arches on the ground floor. A central brick porch features a round-headed arch and a curved parapet, leading to a mid-19th century four-panelled door.

The one-storey wash house to the west is partly faced with flint and partly with brick, also featuring a hipped slate roof and containing the original copper. The one-storey wing to the northwest is made of red brick, with the southwest elevation cobbled to match the wash house. It has three casement windows with cambered arches, a brick modillion cornice, and a camber-headed doorcase with a 20th-century Dutch door. The rear elevations have ground floor casements and two large 20th-century flat-roofed dormers.

Inside the wing, there are two axial beams and a wooden bressumer over a fireplace that contains an old range. The interior of the farmhouse includes a plank door, a two-panelled door, exposed floor joists, and a staircase with stick balusters.
