Description
This is a former livery stable, now a shop, located at 50-64 The Hornet, Chichester. The main block dates to the mid-18th century and was likely altered in the early 19th century. It is stuccoed and has a hipped tiled roof with a brick stack at one end. The building is three storeys high, with nine windows across the front. It has a modillion eaves cornice. The second-floor windows are six-pane sashes set in reveals with horns. Most of the first-floor windows are twelve-pane sashes in reveals with horns, though the rightmost window has a later 19th-century sash without glazing bars. The ground floor has four late 19th-century shop fronts connected by a deep fascia.
To the right of the main block is an early 19th-century extension, also stuccoed and with a hipped tiled roof and a modillion eaves cornice. This extension is three storeys high and has one window. The second-floor window is a six-pane sash with horns, and the first-floor window has horns but no glazing bars. It features two late 19th-century dais at ground floor level.
Further to the right is a mid-19th-century extension, also stuccoed, with a hipped tiled roof. This section is two storeys high and has two windows, along with a small circular window in the ground floor. The windows are 19th-century sashes without glazing bars but with horns.
