Description
Poor Cottage is a pair of cottages, believed to have served as a parish poorhouse. The southern part dates from around 1600, while the northern part is from the 17th century. The southern section is constructed of knapped flint with chamfered brick dressings, while the northern section features an exposed timber frame with flint infill panels. The northern part has a lobby entrance plan.
The building is single storey with attics, comprising a single bay at the south and four bays at the north. The southern section has one leaded casement window, and the northern section has two 20th-century casement windows with chamfered brick window surrounds and a plinth. Brick quoins are present, and the original drip moulds have been replaced.
The northern section has four ground floor windows and three attic dormers with eyebrow arches. There is a 20th-century porch addition at the north and a 20th-century outshut at the rear. The northern part features an axial stack, while the southern part has an end gable stack. Inside, a substantial frame is visible, along with three Inglenook fireplaces.
