Description
West Preston Manor School is an L-shaped building that surrounds a late medieval hall-house, incorporates the remains of an 18th-century house, and features a Victorian wing built around 1860. The north wing has a two-storey exterior faced with flint and red brick window dressings, with five windows that are mainly altered casements. It has a half-hipped slate roof. Inside, this wing retains elements of the late medieval hall-house, including exposed beams and smoke-blackened rafters. In the late 16th to early 17th century, a floor and a brick chimney stack with two inglenooks were added. The south wing, constructed around 1860, is also two storeys high, featuring a mix of knapped and squared flintwork, and is taller than the north wing. It has a hipped slate roof and two triple sash windows. This wing preserves a late 18th-century staircase and door-case, along with notable internal features from around 1860, such as ovolo-moulded cornices, marble fireplaces with brackets or engaged Tuscan columns, and gilded pelmets.
