GODALMING BUTTS LANE (north west side) The Summer House

Summerhouse, formerly to No 91 High Street (q.v.). C.1835, restored 1990. Ground floor of red brick in stretcher bond, rear wall of Bargate rubblestone with old red brick dressings; first floor weatherboarded. Plain tile roof. 2 storeys. Single cell, square on plan, with 2-storey outshut housing stair set back on right side. Entrance front: wooden posts on brick plinths at sides; 1990 door and side- lights in architrave with columns and basket arch with flanking lights; cross- braced decorative panels below sills; on first floor two sashes with glazing bars. Hipped roof, catslide over outshut; rear-wall chimney. Rear: doorway (heightened) has old brick quoins and late C20 board door. Returns have wall post at front straight-braced to mid-rail; right return blind; left return with buttresses flanking probably inserted 2-light window (now blocked) and two sashes with bars above. Interior not inspected.
