Description

The Summer House is a summerhouse that was formerly associated with No 91 High Street in Godalming. It dates from around 1835 and was restored in 1990. The ground floor is constructed of red brick in stretcher bond, while the rear wall is made of Bargate rubblestone with old red brick dressings. The first floor is weatherboarded, and the building has a plain tile roof. It is two stories tall and has a single cell that is square in plan, with a two-story outshut on the right side that houses a stair.

The entrance front features wooden posts on brick plinths at the sides, with a door and sidelights from 1990 set in an architrave that includes columns and a basket arch with flanking lights. Below the sills are cross-braced decorative panels. On the first floor, there are two sash windows with glazing bars. The roof is hipped with a catslide over the outshut, and there is a chimney on the rear wall. The rear of the building has a heightened doorway with old brick quoins and a late 20th-century board door. The returns feature a wall post at the front that is straight-braced to a mid-rail; the right return is blind, while the left return has buttresses flanking a probably inserted two-light window that is now blocked, along with two sashes with bars above. The interior has not been inspected.
